Zero to Emacs and Org-roam: a step-by-step guide on Windows 10

I’m working on getting the Guide to be compatible with V2. Still a long way to go, I have added many elements to get you going.

It’s available in the same GitHub repo

You can still refer to the archive of V1 – some configuration stuff would be still applicable…

So far the following chapters have been updated:

  1. Get Emacs for Windows
  2. Use Emacs to write some text (including copy & paste)
  3. Improve quality-of-life with your font, theme, and minimal select packages
  4. Set up Org-roam (including MSYS2 and emacsql-sqlite.exe) [WIP but main parts are illustrated with a series of screen shots, so you should be able to install Org-roam V2]

More to come…

Hey @nobiot, I found your first chapters really helpful but this link doesn’t work and the same is for the rest chapters from Parts 2 & 3. Is this for a specific reason?

Thanks.
Have a look at this for V2.

The top of this post (the original post) is for V1. I think I will need to update it… but not done yet.

Thank you. Yes, later yesterday I discovered that in V1 the chapters were fine and I made some changes based on these. :100:

Yeah thank you. I would like to come back to them and update for V2; hopefully close to the end of 2022… Can’t work on it right now…

This seems to be a brilliant post for helping out new users. However, some of the links in this post aren’t working. I’m particularly interest in the one with Org-ref and ORB (part 6) and working with pdfs for emacs (part 10).

Can someone help me figure out how I can access these articles?

Edit: Okay just realised OP is working on the guides for part 2. Thank you for your work @nobiot

Thanks. For the chapters you are interested in, the “V1” branch may contain enough information for you, if you have not seen it yet. It was for the version 1 of Org-roam, but for bibliography and PDF, the chapters can give you enough to get started.

I’ll have a look at part 1. Thanks mate.

Thank you for all the work you putting into, making roam-org more accessible!!

Love the theme that you’ve made for vanilla emacs. When I click on the link there nothing… could you upload it again?

I am on vacation and not with my laptop. What you are looking for is in the branch named V1 in GitHub. Are you familiar with Git and GitHub enough to be able to navigate to it?

Yes! Found it  thanks for your quick response!
Wish you a relaxing holiday.

Just in case anybody else is searching for the link:
